Jennifer O'Donnell's writing is intended for couples; it is meant to be an inspiration for them to expand and enhance their relationship, especially the sexual aspects of their time together. Jenn emphasizes the sacred nature of the marriage bond, even as she encourages the couple to explore whether or not they are broadminded and adventurous enough to bring a third party or new experience to the marriage bed. Her obvious goal is to encourage each of the individual partners to express his or her wants, needs and desires to the other in an effort to make their intimacy even more meaningful and, should that expression lead to the couple's experimenting with a new twist or a different turn, then more power to her and to them. Jenn takes real-life situations and spins them into a gossamer web that shows their golden nature and tempts the edges of convention of an individual partnership in a most provocative manner.

  Ski Trip – Jennifer O’Donnell

It had been eight years since Timothy and Stacy had had a chance to escape. When the economy tanked in 2008, it sent their lives in to a dangerous tailspin. Stacy ended up losing her small boutique – it had been her life and home before she meet Timothy. It was where he had bumped into her by accident the first time. He was always absent-minded about things like that, always thinking to hard about his next business venture to see where he was going. That little boutique was where they kissed for the first time, it was where he asked her to marry him. The day she had to close it down was a tough day to say the least. Even Tim got a little misty-eyed when she pulled the metal gate closed for the last time.

Their best friends Simon and Becky didn't have it much better. When the economy tanked, they had to sell their home and start over. Luckily for them, Timothy and Simon were great business partners. Between the two of them, they managed to save their investment firm and keep both of their wives happy in the lives they were accustomed to – albeit a little frugally for a while.

Tim and Stacy's ten-year anniversary was fast approaching, and Tim had been agonizing for weeks over what to do for the occasion. He'd narrowed it down to two choices, and he knew she'd love both.

“Simon, I need your expert counsel,” Tim joked, as they packed their briefcases and headed out of the office for a much-needed weekend.

“What is it Tim?” Simon asked.

“What should I do with Stacy for our ten year? I've got it narrowed down to two ideas. Isolated romantic ski lodge all to ourselves in the Vermont mountains or a jungle adventure in Jamaica?”

Simon pondered a second. He knew them both very well and couldn't just decide something like this on a whim.

“I'm not sure, man. Honestly I'd say ski lodge. You remember what happened when you two went to Brazil?”

Tim did remember. Stacy had wanted to go so bad, but ended up stuck in the hotel most of the time due to the bugs. She was not a bug fan whatsoever. For such a proud strong women, she melted at the sight of bugs.

“You're right, I was leaning there the whole time.” Tim responded. “You know, if you and Becky wanted to come, I'm sure Stacy wouldn't mind the company,” he added.

“Oh, we couldn't possible invade your space on such an important date for you two,” Simon deflected.

“Nonsense Simon, this place is so huge we'd hardly bother each other unless we wanted to. It's pretty impressive, I'll send you the link in an e-mail. You talk to Becky and see what you guys think, we'll leave in a month.”

Simon agreed, and the two men parted ways for the weekend.

As Tim drove home, he couldn't wait to surprise Stacy with the news. He pulled into the garage and could already smell dinner cooking. Stacy was an excellent chef, on top of being an ex-fashion model, business owner, and part-time writer. She was the woman of Timothy's dreams, and he hadn't once thought of another since the day he meet her. She was ravishing to say the least, with long thick curly brown hair that bobbed in curls everywhere she walked. She had rich brown eyes, with just a subtle hint of green around the edges of her irises. Her lips were full and her skin was flawless. She was his Croatian princess, as he would jokingly say.

He walked in the kitchen and set his jacket and briefcase down on the table. Stacy stood smiling from ear to ear as she continued with dinner.

“Hey good looking, whatcha got cooking?” he teased.

“Your favorite, of course.” she sassed back.

She never cooked his favorite. She was the healthy one in the relationship, and he ate as she did. At first he had griped about things, but after a few months he acknowledged and enjoyed they way it made him feel. Timothy walked up behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist, bringing his lips in close to kiss her on the neck. She always smelt sweet, like lavender and vanilla. She s
topped tending to dinner just long enough to reach around and give his butt a squeeze.

“I love the attention, but I do have to finish dinner, dear. There'll be time for that later,” she giggled as she went back to focusing on the meal.

Tim grabbed his work stuff and headed back towards the bedroom. He quickly changed into something a little more relaxing then his usual suit. He took a second to check himself out in the mirror. He was 38 now, and not the young man he use to be. Grey stubble was poking out from the edges of his square jaw. He was noticing a few hardening wrinkles around his sleek blue eyes. Not that Stacy would mind, she was absolutely satisfied with how he looked. One of her favorite pastimes was simply walking the nearby mall with him, arm in arm, watching all the women stare at him as they walked. They were a happy couple, as much as they could be.

Tim headed back down for dinner, the house filling with the rich smells of Stacy's latest concoction. Tonight it was an Asian favorite with a vegan twist. Cashew chicken, made with white rice and tofu. Tim hated tofu, but Stacy had become so good at hiding it or transforming it, he hardly knew any more. As Stacy served the meal, Timothy grabbed the wine and poured them both a glass.

“So, next month is our ten-year anniversary babe, and I think I know just the thing for us both.”

Her eyes perked up from curiosity.

“And what would that be?” she asked quickly.

“Well, you know how our last vacation was a total bust, and it's been a long time since we got away. I figured getting away for a week or more might just do us the trick. In perhaps, I don't know, Vermont.” He waited for her response, at first he was slightly disappointed.

“Vermont?” she asked perplexed. Then it dawned on her. “Nooo, you didn't?” she burst with curiosity.

“Yes I did.” Tim responded with a huge smirk across his face.

She had seen pictures of vacation homes in Vermont, and half-heartedly told Tim of her desire to have one. She was a lavish woman, but always a practical one. She loved to shop and adorn herself with beautiful, rich, one-of-a-kind fashion and jewelry. But she always knew when enough was enough. She never went over her budget after the shop had to close its doors.

Timothy, on the other hand, never knew when to stop. He loved spoiling Stacy so much that it made it impossible for him to resist sometimes. Luckily he had Simon to balance him out, always reminding him of Stacy's frugal demeanor.

“Did you get the one I showed you, with the wraparound porch?” she asked excitedly. Tim nodded in agreement.

“Oh my God, Tim, I can't believe this,” she said as she wrapped her arms around his neck and jumped into his grasp.

“It's ours for as long as we want it – I figured we could spend a few weeks there next month. Does that sound like a plan?” he asked.

  “It absolutely does,” she beamed.

They finished their meal as Stacy continued to gush over Timothy's anniversary present.

Work continued like normal for the weeks that followed. Stacy could hardly hide her excitement. She told Becky the morning after finding out. She checked her budget and found she had just enough to splurge on some new skiing clothes. It was while she was out shopping with Rebecca that Stacy had the idea to invite her and Simon as well. They had all been friends for years, and Rebecca and Simon had even been the maid of honor and best man at Stacy and Tim's wedding. It only seemed natural to invite them for the two weeks they were celebrating their ten years of marriage.

The two women fawned over the idea of the luxurious cottage they would be staying at. Stacy had downloaded dozens of pictures to her smart phone, and as they sat at lunch side by side they giggled like schoolgirls at the extravagance that lay ahead of them. They had good reason too, the cottage was a spectacle. Hardly a traditional cottage by any standards. It had five bedrooms, plus a master suite. Four bathrooms, each more lavish than the next. It had a billiard room, an entertainment den, and a sprawling kitchen that opened up in to a dining area and living room. It was all made of dark cherry wood, with dark smoky stainless steel accents. Its main living room and dining area made up the hexagonal center of the house. The bay windows wrapping around the north and south sides of the house let just the right amount of sunlight in. There was a deck that ran around the entirety of the house, and aside from the Sunday morning landscapers, there wasn't a soul for miles.

Tim and Simon kept working hard for the few weeks before they left. They both had a long list of things to finish before they put the business on hold for two weeks to abscond to the snowy mountainside. They too were as excited, albeit for different reasons then their wives.

“God I can't wait to be alone with Rebecca for two weeks,” said Simon as he shuffled papers at his desk.

“You and me both, Simon,” Tim agreed. “Two weeks, with no phones, no work, and no problems. Sounds like a proverbial paradise to me.”

“With the two most beautiful women in the world, yeah, I think we'll get into more trouble than we expect,” Simon said, with a subtle chuckle under his breath.

“What do you mean – how much trouble could we possible get in to?” Tim asked, his thick eyebrows perking up at the strange statement.

“Oh, you know, Tim – the four of us alone with enough booze to sink the Titanic. Something's going to happen.” Simon pushed on. “I'm just saying, both of our wives can get a little, you know, rambunctious. Alone in the woods, well be like a group of teens in some scary movie. Someone's getting laid eventually.” he said with a hearty chuckle at his terrible joke.

“Oh, well, I can agree with that,” Tim said with a laugh. “But I hardly see that as much trouble.”

“That is until they're getting naked together,” Simon said, with a flash of his devilish smile.

Simon was the wild one out of the two of them. They had meet in college long before their wives came into their lives. Where Tim was the typical tall, dark and handsome, Simon was the quintessential blond-haired California boy. He kept his hair short, but still long enough for the curls to add a sense of waviness to it. His piercing blue eyes sat deep within his face, over his warm and inviting smile. He had a strong square jaw, and usually kept his face stubbled instead of freshly shaven. Simon had always been the real troublemaker with girls back in college. Tim had always been the quiet one they yearned for the most, but his quiet demeanor meant most of them fell for Simon instead. It wasn't till he meet Stacy that he changed his ways, that he took charge and finally made his own moves.

“Excuse me?” Tim burst out after Simon's words sunk in.

“Oh, like you would complain about that,” mused Simon. “We both know our wives are gorgeous, and if they happened to have a little fun, I really doubt we would stop them.”

Tim just stared blankly at Simon. He was right, their wives were always a sight for sore eyes. Stacy with her long hair and statuesque physique caused most men to stop in their tracks. Rebecca, although not as reserved, was always the highlight of any party with her bubbly personality. That and her ravishing blonde hair, and deep green eyes. They had joked at one point that if they were the last two couples on earth, they would repopulate, making Earth the most beautiful planet of all.

“Yeah, I know we wouldn't stop it,” Tim agreed with a hint of annoying sarcasm.

“What's wrong, Tim? Did that upset you?” Simon asked.

“No, not really, just, maybe we should respect our wives a little more than we are right now,” he said, the tension in his voice easing away.

“You realize they've already talked about this?” Simon asked.

“What do you mean?” Tim said confusedly.

“Just last week when they were out to lunch, I guess they got a little drunk while talking about the skiing trip. Rebecca told me when she got home, that they discussed trading us while alone in the woods.”

“Trading us?” Tim asked, even more confused than before.

“Yeah, you know, like swapping.” Simon shuffled the papers on his desk again, and then swung hi
s chair around so he could face Tim eye to eye. “You know lots of couples do it, Rebecca and I have talked about it a bunch. We've just never meet anyone we trusted enough to, you know, go through with it.”

Tim could hardly believe what he was hearing. He had never considered himself a prude, but the thought of sharing his wife was a little too much to handle in the moment.

“Sorry Simon – as much as you want to bed my wife, it ain't gonna happen.” He let the end of his sentence trail of into a bad southern accent.

“Oh God, man, don't take it like that. I was just relaying the information Rebecca told me. If anything talk to Stacy, you'll see that it has nothing to do with me.” And with that they ended the conversation.

Tim was having to hard a time with the idea – how could his wife so brazenly admit to wanting to sleep with another man? Tim couldn't tell if he was pissed or just hurt, either way the idea wasn't sitting well with him.

It kept eating at him as he drove home. Usually his commute was relaxing, he'd listen to his favorite stations unwinding after a long day at work. But the drive home today was anything but relaxing. His mind was racing with the thought of Stacy with Simon. He could feel his blood boiling at the same time, furious that she would even think of such a thing. As soon as he got home, he threw his briefcase down on the table.

“What's wrong babe?” asked Stacy, as she sat in the living room sipping a glass of wine.

“What's wrong?” he bellowed. “I don't know, maybe that you're getting drunk with Rebecca and talking about swapping husbands on the skiing trip.” His words came out harsh and defensive, as if in truth he was hurt more than anything.
